If you want to impress your friends, your family or just make a delicious meal for yourself, make this super easy fish dish. Besides being easy to make, it may be one of the VERY BEST meals you will ever make.
I got this recipe from allrecipes.com and have made it several times. It’s best if you can marinate it overnight so the fish absorbs all the delicious flavors. You can find miso paste at Whole Foods or Fresh Market (in the refrigerated section).
Ingredients
1/3 cup sake
1/3 cup mirin (Japanese sweet rice wine)
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup miso paste
4 (4 ounce) fillets fresh sea bass, about 1 inch thick
2 tablespoons chopped green onion
Directions
Whisk together the sake, mirin, soy sauce, brown sugar, and miso paste in a bowl to make the marinade. Place the sea bass in a large sealable plastic bag and pour the marinade over the sea bass. Chill in refrigerator 3 to 6 hours. Arrange the fillets on a baking sheet. Discard the marinade.
Preheat the oven’s broiler and set the oven rack about 6 inches from the heat source. Prop the oven door to remain slightly ajar.
Bake the sea bass under the broiler until the fish flakes easily with a fork, 7 to 9 minutes. Sprinkle with chopped green onions to serve.
Simply serve it with steamed or stir-fired baby bok choy or snow peas (using a little soy sauce, ginger and water to steam) and coconut rice. To make the rice, put one cup of basmati rice, one can of reduced fat coconut milk and about a cup of water into a large pan. Cook the rice as you normally would, but stir it frequently to keep it from sticking to the pan. Turn off the heat and stir in one chopped red pepper and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Please make this dish and tell me what you think!! I can’t wait to hear….
Happy Cooking,
Molly
I can tell you from personal experience, on many occasions, that this is one delicious dish – just like the author.
Awww…thank you! I love you!
This has got to be my FAVORITE Chilean sea bass recipe. Molly has made this for me and I would choose Molly’s sea bass over ANY restaurants’s sea bass- YUM. I want to try the same marinade on some other fish too…maybe some cod or hogfish?
The hardest part is finding the Miso paste…once you find that at Whole Food or Fresh Market, the rest is easy. Let me know how the marinade works for the cod… 🙂 Thanks Vicki!
Molly make this for our Christmas dinner and let me just say this, I woke up wishing that I could have it for breakfast it was that good!!! The harmony of flavors will jump in your mouth for joy!!!
Mmmm, mmmm, good….and we’re not talking about soup! Plus it’s super easy to make 🙂 Thanks Lynn!
I will have to admit that I have not prepared this dish yet. I also had this wonderful miso bass on Christmas at Molly’s. Guess I better get on the ball and invite some friends over for dinner. I know it will be a hit
If you’re making this, I will be there! Just tell me when and where. 🙂
Hi Molly!
Today, I decided to try to prepare this recipe that you have so graciously shared with all of us. After all, cooking new recipes is a great source of fun and adventure for me! 🙂
So, I went to Fresh Market today to purchase the miso soy. I discovered that they carry a red miso soy and a white miso soy. Could you please tell me which one you recommend for this recipe?
Thanks again for all of your wonderful posts and have a great weekend!
Hi Rhonda:
That is a GREAT question! Get the white miso paste…you will love it! Please tell us how it comes out! Thanks for your kind words…. Molly
Hi Molly:
I made the Miso Soy Chilean Sea Bass, as well as the steamed snow peas and basmati rice as you suggested. May I say it was all so delicious, and I enjoyed it immensely!! Thanks for sharing, Molly, and I hope you are having a wonderful day!! 🙂
Hi Rhonda: I’m SO glad you liked it! I have been craving it and promised to make it for some friends soon. Thanks for all your nice comments….
